John Ortiz is a Director and Editor from San José, Costa Rica. His work explores the intersections between personal grief and historical memory in his country, with the goal of examining and challenging the social, economical, and racial dynamics of the Costa Rican identity. His visual and narrative approaches are grounded in the principles of defamiliarization, self-reflexivity, and emotional intimacy. John is a Student Academy Award finalist, a Student Documentary IDA nominee, and his career has been supported by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
