Space is soundless, as good science fiction filmmakers know. Filme mudo [Silent film] is a 16mm film which shows a microphone on a boom recording the sound of a landscape. No movement is perceptible on the microphone windshield since the film consists of a still image. The absence of movement in the image leads to the absence of sound, which gave rise to the creation of a silent film.
