A version of Tchaikovsky's “Nutcracker“ filmed at the Bolshoi Theater. Yuri Grigorovich's version, which makes use of Hoffmannian fantasy, incorporates ideas from the script of Marius Petipa's ballet: combat with mice, snowflake turmoil, character dances by the dolls, all combine to make this ballet a fairy tale in two acts. Act 1 On Christmas Eve, Marie is given a nutcracker by her godfather Drosselmeyer. After the party, at midnight, the toys come to life. The Nutcracker leads the toy soldiers to Marie's rescue, threatened by the Mouse King's army.
